Overseas topping! Chinese brand becomes Singapore's top selling new car in 2024
The Straits Times reported on January 20 that for the first time, a Chinese electric car brand has overtaken Japanese and German brands to become Singapore's best-selling car brand in 2024.
According to data released by the Land Transport Authority of Singapore, more than 14,000 electric vehicles will be registered in Singapore in 2024. Among them, BYD's sales accounted for 14.4% of new car registrations in 2024, surpassing Japan's Toyota brand and Germany's BMW brand to top the sales list for the first time.
A number of Chinese EV brands entered the Singapore market in 2024, including Chery, Dongfeng, Guangqi, Xiaopeng and Pole Krypton, the report said. An automotive industry consultant believes that sales will remain strong as Singaporean consumers become more receptive to Chinese EV brands in the Singapore market.
